Understanding Laser Therapy
Therapeutic laser is also known by other names such as cold laser or low-level laser. Most recently, the term Photobiomodulation has been coined since it encompasses its true meaning. Photobiomodulation works by using electromagnetic energy to interact with the cells chemically and biologically. It is also called “cold” laser therapy because the low levels of light aren’t enough to heat your body’s tissue.
Photobiomodulation is not painful and well tolerated. Most patients will relax and sometimes fall asleep during their laser therapy treatment, which rarely takes longer than a quarter of an hour.
