Laser Therapy for Pets
Veterinary laser therapy is a heavily researched veterinary modality that may help reduce pain and inflammation while supporting healing and tissue regeneration. York Mobile Veterinary Services proudly brings this treatment directly to your door, offering supportive pain management for pets in the comfort of home.
Understanding Laser Therapy
Therapeutic laser is also known by other names, including cold laser, low-level laser, and photobiomodulation. Photobiomodulation uses light energy to interact with the body’s cells chemically and biologically.
It is sometimes called “cold” laser therapy because the low levels of light are not enough to heat the body’s tissue.
Photobiomodulation is not painful and is typically well tolerated by pets. Many patients relax during treatment, and some may even fall asleep. Most laser therapy sessions take about 15 minutes.
Conditions Commonly Treated with Pet Laser Therapy:
Laser therapy may be considered for areas of pain or inflammation and can be used alongside medication, veterinary acupuncture, or as a stand-alone treatment depending on your pet’s needs.
Common reasons laser therapy may be recommended include:
- Osteoarthritis
- Intervertebral disc disease
- Lick granulomas
- Skin or ear infections
- Wound healing
- Improving nerve function or regeneration
- Releasing painful trigger points
Laser therapy can be especially helpful for aging pets or pets with underlying medical concerns where some medications may carry a higher risk of side effects. The number of sessions and frequency of treatment will depend on your pet’s condition and response to therapy.
