about me

I developed my love for animals very early in life. I would be often seen helping at my aunt’s pet store.  It was during my high school co-op placement at a veterinary clinic that I found my calling; to use my passion for animals and love of medicine to better the lives of pets and their owners.

After high school, I attended the University of Guelph and was accepted into the Ontario Veterinary College, graduating with my veterinary degree in 2002. At graduation, I was the recipient of the Beloved Friends Award for “demonstrating kindness and care in the treatment of animals in the medicine and surgery clinics.” To me, this wasn’t just an award, but an acknowledgement of my core philosophy that I carry with me today.

“Being able to manage all aspects of a patient’s well being is critical to a happy life. That means proper pain management, nutrition, and integrative techniques on top of conventional medicine.”

Since graduation, I have continued to enhance my level of care by keeping current with the most recent advances in veterinary medicine. My obsession in patient comfort has led to my certification in pain management. I am a member of the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, Ontario Veterinary Medical Association, Veterinary Information Network, American Animal Hospital Association, Curacore Medical Acupuncture for Veterinarians and International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.

My passion for pain management has led to my certification in Veterinary Medical Acupuncture (cVMA).  While rooted from traditional acupuncture, medical acupuncture is based on the medical science behind acupuncture’s effect on the neurophysiology of the body.  Put simply, acupuncture is used to reduce pain signals transmitted through the body; while encouraging the release of endorphins, the body’s natural analgesic.  This integrative care approach not only helps to alleviate pain; it is used to restore balance, enhance the immune system and improve quality of life.

I practice integrative medicine.  Integrative medicine is based on the treatment philosophy that focuses on the entire pet; using the best of conventional and complementary medicine.  I integrate scientifically-validated therapies of conventional medicine with select practices derived from areas considered to be complementary medicine, such as acupuncture.  I feel that the combination of conventional and complementary methods will facilitate the body’s innate healing response to preserve health.
